THIS INFO WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE is performance comedy—part standup, part self-help seminar, part experimental theatre. The show represents a culmination of Mary McCool’s work in extreme clown/character creation and standup comedy. Electronically enhanced, it’s Laurie Anderson meets the Philly Fanatic. The character embodies the pathos/bathos inherent in
wanting to make a solo show, but also in art-making in general. It amplifies the artistic impulse to the extreme-- many of the visionary, narcissistic, muse-inspired impulses that drive people to make work for an audience are here personified and brought to life.
A character on a mission, the unknowable being at the center of this mystical event wants to bring a magical, life-changing experience to its audience—a journey of music and meditation, a journey to your deepest self.
Forged in a crucible of molten dreams, and articulating the poetics of failure and the power of the imagination, this mystical performance-comedy celebrates life, change, and personal growth.
The Plays & Players blackbox theatre is transformed into a mystical plane, home to a poor man’s Phantom of the Opera, where the audience gets to be Christine. The action takes place in real space, and in the mind’s eye of the audience:
